Audi built the last R8 in 2023. That single fact changed what the car is: a naturally aspirated, mid-engine, 5.2-litre V10 with a Lamborghini Huracán bloodline, and no successor coming. Then Audi ended production. The Type 4S V10 — and specifically the final GT RWD run — became the last naturally aspirated ten-cylinder road car the company will build. What 115°F Actually Does to an R8

Las Vegas peaks at 115°F and holds a UV index of 10 to 12 — the National Weather Service "extreme" band — from May through September, across 310-plus sunny days a year. An attached residential garage with an uninsulated roll-up door and a west exposure does not buffer that. It tracks ambient with a lag, then holds the heat after sundown. Interior surfaces in direct sun reach 160 to 190°F. The specific failures on an R8 are predictable:

Carbon Fibre Sideblades and Clearcoat
The R8’s signature sideblade is a lacquered composite or painted panel with a large flat surface and no shade. Extreme UV degrades the clearcoat’s UV inhibitors first, then attacks the resin underneath. Once a composite panel clouds or micro-crazes there is no polish that fixes it — it is a repaint or a replacement panel, and on a carbon sideblade set that is a $4,000 to $9,000 conversation.
Nappa Leather and Alcantara
R8 cabins run Fine Nappa with Alcantara on the wheel, headliner, and console. Alcantara is a polyester microfibre that goes hard and shiny with heat cycling, and Nappa loses plasticiser and cracks at the seat bolster and dash crown. The V10 Specifics Most Storage Facilities Get Wrong

The R8’s 5.2 FSI is a dry-sump engine. That matters for storage in a way a wet-sump car’s does not. Oil lives in an external tank and is scavenged from the sump by dedicated pumps, so the film left on bearing surfaces and cylinder walls when the engine shuts down is what protects those surfaces for the entire storage period. Acidic, moisture-loaded used oil sitting against bearing shells for eight months is corrosive. This is the single strongest argument for the sequence Hagerty recommends: change the oil immediately before storage, not after.

Fuel is the second issue. Pump premium in Nevada is E10, and ethanol is hygroscopic — it pulls water out of the air, and at 40 to 50% relative humidity in a sealed building it pulls far less than it does in an open garage during monsoon season. Phase separation drops a water-alcohol layer to the bottom of the tank where the in-tank pump lives. On a direct-injection V10 with high-pressure fuel pumps and injectors machined to micron tolerances, that is a $2,500 to $6,000 repair. Hagerty has argued for years against the folklore habit of starting a stored car monthly. A short idle brings the engine to operating temperature nowhere near long enough to boil condensation out of the oil and exhaust, but it is more than long enough to wash the cylinder walls with fuel and dump combustion moisture into a cold system. Tires, Brakes, and the Cost of Sitting Still

R8s leave the factory on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 or Pirelli P Zero Corsa depending on spec and year. Both are motorsport-derived compounds with soft, heat-cycle-sensitive silica formulations. They are exceptional for two years and then they are consumables regardless of tread depth — and in Las Vegas heat, that clock runs faster.

Flat-spotting is the acute version of the problem. A 3,700-pound car resting its full corner weight on one contact patch, in a garage that swings 45 degrees a day, deforms the nylon and steel belt package under the tread.
